Our worship at Christ Church Staincliffe aims to incorporate the best of both ancient and modern. Services range from the music and colour of the traditional High Mass, to the more intimate weekday celebrations of the Eucharist, and prayer groups. The church is not just for Sundays: services take place throughout the week as well. Masses take place at Christ Church and in our sister parish of S. John the Evangelist, Carlinghow.
At the Mass, also called the Eucharist, we recall Jesus' death on the cross and the resurrection from the dead. It is the special service of the church, wherein the priest calls upon the Holy Spirit to transform the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ. It is because of this that we light candles on the altar and that the priest wears colourful vestments. On Sundays our celebration of the Mass is also enriched by music and incense.
Everyone, regardless of age, receives a friendly welcome to worship at Christ Church Staincliffe. Children are admitted to communion after preparation and there is plenty of room for very small children and their parents, where they can play safely whilst still being part of the service.
A Priest is usually available to hear confessions after Mass. If you would like to arrange a time for Confession or for Spiritual Direction, please contact 01924 656454
11.00 am Sung Parish Mass
The High Mass combines both ancient and modern; contemporary words with traditional ceremonial. After Mass we stay in church for tea or coffee and a chat.
