Prayer
Prayer is an essential component of our Christian life. When we pray, we are talking to God and, more importantly, making time for him to talk back to us. In the life of the Church, each day starts and ends with the reciting of formal prayer and psalms, called the Offices. MemorialsThe process of bereavement does not end with the funeral. Although our loved ones may have been laid to rest, coming to terms with their death is something that will take a long time. For this support is available through a number of channels. At Christ Church Staincliffe there is a well tended Garden of Remembrance, for the burial of cremated remains, where you can sit, reflect and pray quietly.
We believe that it is important to remember and pray for those who have died, and so we do so at Mass each year, on the anniversary of their deaths and at a special service at the beginning of November. In addition, at Christmas, and at other times of the year, we invite all those who have been bereaved to sponsor lights in memory of their departed relatives and friends. At other times of the year, especially on the anniversary of death, birthdays and wedding anniversaries, people can, for a small charge, sponsor a lamp that will burn in church for seven days, in memory of their loved ones. This is a very positive thing that we can do for them, since the light and the warmth of the lamp’s flame is a visible sign of our love, which never dies. Staincliffe Parish Prayer GOD our Father, who moved the founders of this church to build a house of prayer for the offering of eternal praises to your glorious majesty: pour out, we pray, the fire of your Spirit upon this parish of Christ Church Staincliffe and upon this church, that it may be renewed by your love, grow in your holiness, and reach out to your world; that ever more of your children may, in this place, come to recognize Jesus in the Breaking of Bread. We ask this through the same, Christ Our Lord. Amen. | The Lord's PrayerJesus taught us to pray for all we need
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen A PRAYER FOR THE DEPARTED
Rest eternal grant unto them O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen THE JESUS PRAYER
