Arts Church

As part of its 140th celebrations, the Parish of Christ Church Staincliffe started to engage in a process of thought as to how it might develop its ministry and outreach to the community. Working from the initial premise of the beauty of creation, the Church’s response was to take steps of developing itself as a local centre and venue for the Arts. In 2006, a member of the congregation, Gary Cromack, who trained as a sculptor, was appointed the Church’s first Art Director. Under his auspices the Church has run a series of Workshops, Exhibitions and Art Installations, often focussing on aspects of the church building or the Christian faith for  inspiration.

Alongside these installations, there is an emerging performing arts programme. The church had always been the venue for the occasional recital, but this will now be extended to include professional choral, orchestral and instrumental ensembles. This Arts Programme is very much aimed at the whole community. It is something special in an area that is still in need of much regeneration.  It is hoped that it will, in some way, enrich people's lives by bringing them into contact with the Arts, and through that, into closer contact with the church. That is why in its publicity Christ Church has adopted the title The Arts Church. To find out about the Arts Project at Christ Chruch Staincliffe, click on the pages on the right.
